Want to try something different but as tasty as hummus? Try muhammara! It’s similar to hummus, but uses roasted red peppers and walnuts as the base instead of chickpeas. The addition of pomegranate molasses gives this dish a delightful tang to balance out the spice and richness of the red peppers. Like hummus, it’s usually enjoyed with pita bread.
Ingredients:
- 12 oz. jar of Roasted Red Peppers, drained
- 1 cup Walnuts
- 3 tbsp. Pomegranate Molasses
- 1 tbsp. Olive Oil
- 3 cloves of Garlic
- 1 tbsp. Lemon Juice
- 1 tsp. Ground Cumin
- 1 tsp. Kosher Salt
- 1 tsp. Aleppo Pepper Flakes
- 1/2 cup Breadcrumbs
Instructions:
- Toast the walnuts in a small pan over medium-low heat until lightly toasted, or about 10 minutes.
- Add all of the ingredients into a food processor and pulse until smooth to combine.
- Adjust the texture to your liking. If the mixture is too runny, add in more breadcrumbs. If the mixture is too thick, pour in more olive oil or lemon juice.
- Transfer the mixture into a serving bowl. Drizzle with additional pomegranate molasses. Garnish with pomegranate seeds and chopped walnuts.
